Pop diva Madonna has held her own for over three decades in an industry where artistes, especially female artistes tend to have excruciatingly limited careers. Her journey of reinventing herself and her music with time has not been without its fair share of controversies, either.

The "Like A Virgin" singer was recently named Woman of the Year at the Billboard's Women in Music 2016 event. In an emotional acceptance speech, Madonna described her journey to pop stardom, complete with the rejections, violence and sexism that came her way.

She took the malicious labels given to her in her stride and included them in a tongue-in-cheek manner in the 10-minute long speech, which is hilarious, blunt, and inspiring in equal measure.
