What would you pick if it came down to freedom and dream?
The story of jail inmates, apparently innocent by their confessions, play the game of circumstances and create a band. This music is what will set them free, but are the choices and consequences behind the “action-plan” to escape that easy? .
All of this sounds like a script of one movie, right? Well, this storyline with many similarities is actually the plot for two movies.
While the plate of nepotism is still hot, YRF decided to introduce Raj Kapoor’s grandson Aadar Jain in this unlikely YRF movie - Qaidi Band. Joining the ‘newbie’ band of actors is Anya Singh and a host of other newcomers. Qaidi Band talks about “under-trials”( a person held in jail awaiting court judgment for a crime he may or may not have committed) who rise to fame after forming a band in the jail and the opportunity that later turns out to be a double-edged sword.
A more intelligent and intense version of the same story is that of Farhan Akhtar’s upcoming movie Lucknow Central. Farhan is seen as the lead who undertakes the responsibility to form a band and in turn hatch an escape plan.
While the conflict of the same story is clearly visible, Nikhil Advani , producer of Lucknow Central shared the story behind this real-life inspired script in an interview .
“Ranjit came to me with a newspaper article about five inmates who wanted to escape prison and created a band. What happened subsequently to them and what is still going on is the story. It is inspired by a true story and it is a fascinating tale.”
Ranjit Tiwari is the debutant director of the same movie.
This is not the first time films with similar plot will be clashing on screen. A recent example was that of Raveena Tondon’s Maatr and Sridevi’s Mom - both based on a rape-revenge plot.
For you to judge, here is the trailer of the two movies:
