With the year 2016 almost on the verge of closure, it’s a good time to start looking back at some of the best movies of the year, which we may have missed. 2016 won’t particularly be remembered as a stellar year when it comes to blockbusters, but there were plethora of excellent genre offerings and critically acclaimed movies that got the critics raving and are pinned to acquire the cult status in the future.

Here are some of the ‘marvelous’ movies of 2016 (in no particluar order) that didn’t get the attention they deserved, but were indeed awesome:

Fences is an American drama film directed by and starring the great Denzel Washington and is written by August Wilson. It is based on his Pulitzer Prize winning play of the same name. It is a simple and sophisticated film which painfully, honestly and beautifully answers the questions about opportunities, dreams, compromises and basically the whole concept of ‘Life’. Also starring Viola Davis, this movie has Oscar written all over it and should definitely be on your top list.

Sing Street

This film takes us back to the beautiful time of 1980’s. A 14-year-old boy escapes his careworn family to start a band of his own to impress the mysterious girl that he likes. Could a plot be simpler than this? Well, it is not only simple, but also a pleasant movie with lots of emotion, excellence, elegance and charm combined with delightful music. Sing Street is a must watch movie for every music lover.

This is a hauntingly beautiful science-fiction movie which is definitely the best film of 2016 by far. Tantalizing and eerie, Arrival manages to capture the essence that Interstellar desperately tried but failed. Amy Adams as the lead silently and gradually takes the movie to an epic finish. Her role is delightfully complimented by Jeremy Renner who also gives his best. Not only this, the best part of this movie is its stupendous soundtrack. It is so well balanced with the content of the film, that the epic combination captivates us till the last scene.

Silence is a Martin Scorsese movie starring Liam Neeson. Well, need we say more? Undeniably gorgeous, intense and visually striking, Silence seems like a anti-Scorsese film which is definitely unlike his previous works. At some point, it will even mean to make you say, ‘Can this man cook?’ Nevertheless, it is definitely worth watching. After all it’s Scorsese!

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi

Michael Bay has entertained us over the years with many good films. He is well know for his predilection to blow things up and go absolutely bonkers and bold with the content and plot of the film. There’s no arguing, he has failed sometimes, but more often than not, he strikes and strikes good. 13 Hours is a terrific war film about the Benghazi incident from 2012. To sum up, Bay manages to glorify big guns over big minds and this movie certainly makes its way in the must watch list for everyone.

Hush is a Netflix Horror movie which is not a great original horror movie, but is a fun movie to watch in general. The plot revolves around a resourceful deaf woman who takes on a psychotic killer and this cat and mouse game, coupled with scary jump scenes will definitely give you nightmares for a long time. This movie is highly entertaining and has a overall rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes (Just in case, you need more convincing!)

The Nice Guys

The Nice Guys is a out of the box mystery-comedy starring none other than Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe. The amazing duo with their hilarious chemistry will totally have you in splits. Again, this might not be the greatest movie ever, but it definitely offer you a pleasurable way to pass an evening.

Manchester By The Sea

Casy Affleck and Michelle Williams take us on a teary-eyed ride in this emotional American drama. It is an extraordinary swirl of love, anger, tenderness and brittle humor which will definitely make your day. Casey Affleck is highly impressive with his elegant acting and is a strong contender for Oscars this time around.

Hail, Caesar!

Hail, Caesar! is a comedy-mystery film written, produced, edited and directed by academy award winning filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen. The film is a fictional story that follows the life of  Eddie Mannix, a tough but conflicted "fixer" who keeps actors' scandals out of the press. Featuring a massive star cast of George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Scarlett Johansson, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, the movie is simply hilarious to watch.

Eddie The Eagle

Eddie the eagle is a lovable biopic about popular British skier Eddie Edwards who in 1988 became the first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping. Starring Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton, this is a quirkily inspirational shaggy-dog biopic which will totally have you in splits.
