Kerala government is the first state in India to have a Transgender policy. A survey reported that there are 25,000 transgenders in Kerala. In a major boost to the transgender population, the government announced a pension scheme for those above the age of 60 years, according to Times of India

State Finance Minister Thomas Isaac unveiled the first budget of the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government. Thomas stated, "The LDF government is committed to protect the rights of all, including those in the transgender community. We will introduce pension for transgenders above 60 years of age,".
As Transgenders face a lot of discrimination, it is very difficult for them to get regular jobs and get other benefits such as medical and pensions
