The producer is accused of raping a Delhi-based woman on multiple occasions in Mumbai and Hyderabad in 2015. After the 25-year-old victim, who is a Bachelor of Business Management student, came forward with her allegations in January this year, Rachkonda police, registered the case of rape against Morani.
Morani will be taken to court today following by a medical examination by the authorities.
The complainer claimed that Morani sexually assaulted her on different occasions in Mumbai and in Hyderabad. The woman wanted to act in films and according to her allegations, Morani even made false promises of marriage.
According to the India Today, Morani has been facing charges under section 417 (cheating), 376 (rape) 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation), 493 (cohabitation caused by a man deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
India Today quoted the complainer’s quote which she gave earlier this year, "I didn't know what was happening nor did I know how to react. I was depressed and didn't talk to anyone about it. When I spoke to his family, they did not even react. But now after going through so much, I felt the need to fight. And I am doing this on my own. He repeatedly drugged and raped me. He threatened to shoot me and blackmailed me with nude pictures of mine which he had clicked," she said.
Morani who is the founder of Cineyug Productions is also considered a close friend of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
