Just when we had given up on expecting good thrillers in Hindi, the trailer for Irada has surfaced. The Ishqiya duo Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi share screen space in this promising flick, directed by Aparnaa Singh, who has written stories for acclaimed films like Gulaal and Shaurya.
The fast-paced trailer reveals Arshad Warsi as a wry and no-nonsense NIA officer, charged with investigating a mysterious explosion in a factory, which has serious socio-environmental ramifications. Naseeruddin Shah is an retired Army officer who seeks revenge for his dead daughter. They are supported by Sagarika Ghatge, Divya Dutta and Rajesh Sharma, while Sharad Kelkar, yet again, plays the antagonist.
The setting of the film is distinctly Punjabi, reminiscent of the controversy surrounding the Bathinda Thermal Power Plant, whose operations have been linked to the occurrence of serious birth defects among inhabitants of nearby areas.
We hope that the film is everything the trailer promises, and better:
Irada hits theatres on February 17, 2017.
