Offering a garland of flowers to the deceased body is an age old tradition. But the meaning changes completely when a garland is put on the picture of the person who is hale and hearty. In one such incident, BJP’s mayor from Indore made a massive goof up, when she accidentally paid a floral tribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
According to a report by News 18, Malini Gaud, the wife of former MP cabinet minister Late Laxman Singh Gaud, was participating in a function at her residence in Indore on March 27. After putting a garland on her dead husband’s photo, she unintentionally went on to garland pictures of PM Modi and CM Chouhan, eventually creating a controversy.
Congress MLA, Jitu Patwari brought the blunder to light and demanded, “Whoever had put garland around pictures of the PM and chief minister, should be punished,” reports The Indiatimes.
Jitu Patwari said that how could the mayor overlook this as she herself is a member of BJP. The local unit of the party has not made any official comments about this incident.
This is not the first time that such a blunder has happened. In a similar incident, a Jharkhand minister created controversy two years ago, when she paid a floral tribute to the former president (11th) Dr APJ Abdul Kalam while he was alive.
In another such case, a school principal was suspended in Gwalior in 2015 after he thought that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was dead and conducted a condolence meet.
As this time it has happened with PM Modi, who could be more alive in aftermath of the resounding UP victory, just imagine the ‘significance’ of this goof-up.
