Prakash Javdekar, the union minister of Human Resource Development, on Monday, announced the government rankings of educational institutions from all over the country.
While Indian Institute of Science was named the best university, Miranda House, Delhi was declared the best college.
Other institutions in the best colleges list include Loyola College, Chennai and Shri Ram College, Delhi. As far as the universities are considered, the much talked about Jawaharlal Nehru University was the second best university in the country followed by the Banaras Hindu University.
In the overall ranking category, as many as seven IITs managed to bag a spot on the list of top ten.
This year, several biggies like St Stephens College, Hindu College, and Ramjas College didn’t apply for the survey in which more than 3,300 institutes were considered.
“Jadavpur and JNU haven’t got good ranking for raising slogan for Afzal Guru but for doing good work,” human resource development minister Prakash Javadekar said as reported by Hindustan Times.
Jadavpur University, Kolkata managed to get the fifth spot in the survey of best universities.
“The institutes were marked on 20 parameters under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) that was launched last year. The criteria used to rank the institutions included teaching/learning resources, research, graduation outcomes (employability), outreach/ social and gender inclusivity and perception. The government said it emphasised on the quality of research and employer perception during the exercise,” reports Hindustan Times.
