Forbes announced its annual list of the world's highest-paid celebrities for 2016 and Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar are the only Bollywood stars who feature alongside the Hollywood hot-shots.
Shah Rukh is ranked 86th on the list with earnings of $33 million, while Akshay Kumar bagged the 94th spot with $31.5 million earned in 2016.
Forbes believes that the FAN star is a king at the Bollywood box office with hit films in a leading role and earns not only from their fees but also for the promotions and marketing. Forbes quoted, “He also cashes in on endorsement deals for dozens of brands most Americans have likely never heard of.”
However Akshay Kumar slipped many ranks this year from 76th last year to barely making to the top 100 in spite of three hit films which earned him millions.
“The action star bolsters his earnings endorsing a wider range of products than most Hollywood shills including motorcycles and gold loan company”, Forbes said.
Last year Forbes had described Shah Rukh as “India’s Leonardo DiCaprio” with an earning of USD 26 million. And for Akshay, Forbes said that one of “Bollywood’s busiest leading men” on the list with his annual earnings equalling Hollywood Stars George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s combined money.
Forbes said that during the June 2015-2016 scoring period, the world’s 100 highest-paid celebrities were paid more than $5.1 billion pretax. To decide upon the Celebrity 100, Forbes takes into account front-of-the-camera talent across the entire entertainment world, right from Hollywood, Bollywood actors to Soccer stars to basketball players but only one third of them are not from the US.
American singer Taylor Swift tops the list with an earning of $170 million followed closely by the popular boy band One Direction’s Zayn Malik has who came at the second spot with $110 million.
The list also includes crime-mystery author James Patterson on the 3rd spot followed by the Euro Cup heartthrob, footballer Cristiano Ronaldo at four. The centre of controversies player Lionel Messi is at number 8 with $81.5 million.
Kevin Hart ranks sixth followed by British singer Adele on number nine with $80.5 million earnings and musician Madonna at number 12. The Karate Kid actor Jackie Chan ranks 21 with USD 61 million. Hollywood comedian actor Dwayne Johnson is on 19th place whereas Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence is on the 50th spot and Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen on 99th.
Reality TV show star Kim Kardashian is 43rd with $51 million made mostly from her mobile game.
