Emma Watson stunned us with her fabulous look as Belle from the childhood fantasy Beauty and the Beast winning accolades worldwide.
Movie is definitely an adaptation but has been flavoured differently to suit the taste of the 21st century.
Emma Watson who seems to be absolutely in love with children’s classic happens to be a self-proclaimed feminist and rumour has it that she has molded the character of the Disney Princess to be more empowered rather than delicate and pretty.
Watson, who is also the UN Women Global Ambassador, had her own ideas for her role. So this Belle isn’t a dainty damsel in distress wearing floosy gowns but will be an inventor, a woman of caliber and will be dressed accordingly.
In a recent interview Emma stated that she would not wear a corset in the movielike the usual princesses used to! According to her, Belle will be an "active" princess, not one who would be held up with a restrictive corset. She has worked closely with the designers to make sure that her attires are not the typical Disney ones to stand true to her word and avoid controversies of body shaming like the 2015 re-make of Cinderella, where people raised eyebrows at actress Lily James's corset and tiny waistline.
When asked Emma said, “ Belle ain't got time for that. She's got stuff to invent and a voice to be heard.”
This bold action by the actress is a welcome change in view of the transforming thoughts of today’s society where objectification of women is being trashed.
Since its inception, Disney Princesses have been the role models for girls especially at a time when their minds can be most influenced. So it was high time those definitions of ideals (body wise and value wise) change with times.
Emma Watson! You go girl!
P.S: Among other news, the movie trailer that was released on November, 14th just passed "50 Shades of Grey" as the most viewed trailer in 24 hours so we can hardly wait for March 17, 2017 now, can we?
