How often do you complain of irritation or pain in your ear because of a little something that got stuck in it? Quite often, right?

Now, how often is that little something a gecko?

A man from Guangzhou, in the Guangdong province of China went to the hospital complaining about an aching ear and ended up discovering a tiny lizard in his ear. No, you didn’t read it wrong, that actually happened!

The unidentified patient was napping when he felt something move inside his ear. He immediately tried to pull the creature out, but his attempt backfired as the frightened creature moved further in his head. That is when the man decided to go to First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University, realizing the gravity of the situation.

Doctors at the hospital discovered a tiny gecko in the man’s ear canal. To prevent it from crawling further into the man’s head, the doctors anesthetized the reptile and then pulled it out with the help of pliers.

Too much adventure around an ear?  It’s not over, there is a twist to the tail (again, you didn’t read it wrong).

The tail of the gecko that came out of the man’s ear had a missing tail. Despite a long search operation, when the hospital staff couldn’t find the tail, the doctors concluded that, maybe the lizard lost its tail before entering the napping man’s ear. Let us hope that is the case!

Fortunately, there weren’t any complications. The man was discharged from the hospital and advised to rest for 2-3 days.
