The Bureau of Investigative Journalism has claimed in a sensational report that United States had paid more than 1/2 billion USD to a British PR firm for top secret Iraq propaganda. It states that Pentagon has hired a controversial UK PR firm Bell Pottinger to do this job.

The aim of this operation was to make fake videos similar to the Arabic news network. These would then be used to track the people who watch them and gain intelligence.

The Bureau claims that the firm had almost 300 employees working on this project. Their work started soon after US invaded Iraq in 2004. The Bureau has identified transactions worth $540 million between the Pentagon and Bell Pottinger for information operations and psychological operations on a series of contracts issued from May 2007 to December 2011.

Martin Wells - former video editor for Bell Pottinger

The Bureau has interviewed former video editor of the PR firm Martin Wells who provided all these insights.
