DC Entertainment, the company that gave us iconic characters like Batman and Superman, announced on Tuesday that it is partnering with Warner Bros. Digital Network Group for a new digital service, but wait there’s more!
The company also announced the two TV series for the new platform which is scheduled to launch in 2018. Both of the TV shows are based on Teen Heroes. Any guesses who?
The first series offered on the new platform will be an exclusive live-action drama series called ‘Titans’. If the title sounds familiar to you, it is probably because ‘Titans’ is based on the long-running Teen Titans comic series, which has generated many animated adaptations including the series ‘Teen Titans’ which aired on Cartoon Network between 2003 to 2006.
Titans follows a team of young soon-to-be superheroes from across the DC universe who embark on an exciting adventure to save the world. Led by Dick Grayson, aka Robin, the series will include Starfire, Cyborg, Raven and Beast Boy.
The second show is the much anticipated third season of ‘Young Justice’. Subtitled ‘Outsiders’, the move for the ‘Young Justice’ animated series comes after two seasons on Cartoon Network which aired from 2011 to 2013.
Both the series will air exclusively on DC’s digital platform which is described as an ‘immersive experience designed just for DC fans’.
DC Entertainment’s decision to launch its own streaming service comes as more and more platforms are looking to launch feasible streaming competitors to established services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon etc. This move further into TV programming is no surprise given the success the company has found on the small screen.
The new streaming platform doesn’t have a name yet, but it is in the early stages of production.
