Chris De Burgh was right! It’s burning like fire on water. Well, we’re not kidding! There’s a lake in Bengaluru which is burning, since Thursday evening.
Bellandur lake, one of the largest lakes in Bengaluru is infamous for toxic pollutants and the layer of methane foam, for a while now. Sometimes, the foam gets so much that it spills on the road nearby, causing problems for the citizens.

The flames started on Thursday evening, and soon the smoke spread over the nearby apartments and flyovers. The condition of the lake deteriorated after toxic chemicals, effluents from factories and garbage from nearby areas were dumped regularly and that too on a large scale.
While the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board has issued notices to the civic authorities in order to stop dumping of toxic pollutants.
"Usually, a pile of garbage strewn around the lake is set on fire, but yesterday it caused a scare among residents and motorists as the smoke started billowing and surrounding the lake in the evening," KU Ramesh, deputy director at Karnataka Fire Department told PTI.
