A local bar in Israel is giving menstruating women major sugar rush!
In a first of its kind, the bar is offering a flat 25% off on its drinks to women who are on their period.
The move was a brainchild of two women in Jaffa. They say the idea behind the “bloody hour” is more so like a recognition that menstruating women deserve a favour. It is also to get men talking more openly about periods.
Cynics cried foul saying that any woman could take advantage of this since there would be no way to check if they’re actually menstruating or not. The folks at the bar cleared the air by saying that the discount would be given on the basis of the trust.
Anna Loulou, the owner at the bar stated that women spend 25% of their lives in menses and that’s a good enough reason for letting them have a night to let their hair down.
Moran Barir, while talking to the Israeli newspaper ‘Haaret’, stated: "The whole idea is to give a discount, attention and a treat to someone, to say 'we recognize you, we're aware of the special situation you're in right now, and hey, we want to do you a favour'."
The idea struck Barir when she herself was at a bar and the waiter couldn’t remember if she had ordered red wine or white wine.
"I told him simply 'Here's how you'll remember: I'm on my period, so bring me red'," say Barir in her slick style.
The discount will be available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
