An official said on Wednesday, that a case has been registered against an unidentified person for allegedly trying to put the name of Shirdi’s Saibaba in the voters list in the local assembly constituency in Ahmednagar district.
The official said that the attempt was made through the online system of Election Commission.
The authorities spotted the entry in the scrutiny of the forms after which they informed the police and filed a case. The entry was made back on December 4 and Saibaba’s age was put up as 24 and father’s name as Ram, said Rahta police station inspector Arun Pardeshi.
Pardeshi said, “An unidentified person on December 4 accessed the online registration system of the EC and tried to register Saibaba’s name as a voter from Shirdi assembly segment. The person mentioned Saibaba’s age as 24 and his father’s name as Ram. The person mentioned the famous temple in Shirdi as the address of Saibaba.”
The entry was spotted by the Nayab Tehsildar (Election Branch), Rahta, Sachin Mhaske. He said, “Somebody made an attempt to enrol Saibaba’s name as a voter by filling form no. 6 (for voter registration). The incident came to light during scrutiny of forms.”
The Crime Branch was investigating the case earlier but as of now the case has been transferred to Rahta Police, which led to delay in investigation, said Pardeshi.
