Anushka Sharma playing a playful ghost and cast along with Diljit Dosanjh caught the attention of the public like never before as the Phillauri trailer got 2.5 million hits in just 10 hours.
Anushka, who has also co-produced the movie with her brother Karnesh Sharma under their banner Clean Slate Films, told the Hindustan Times from Mumbai, “We are very ecstatic. When you put out a film like this, you don’t know how people will receive it because you’re trying to tell a story differently.”
“So when such a response comes through... It’s great. We are grateful with the response, and we are very charged up with the rest of the promotions, thanks to this amazing start.”
The trailer begins with Life of Pi fame Suraj Sharma as an NRI Punjabi boy who is made to marry a tree before he marries his fiance as he is ‘Maanglik’. Troubles begin when Anushka, a spirit residing in the tree starts to haunt and follow him everywhere, claiming to be his wife.
The stupendous actress whose last delivery was Sultan said: “I thought playing human was too mainstream... Insaan se bore ho gayi. But... this ghost is different and fun.”
The movie will show a flashback for the ghost where she is in love with the very versatile Diljit Dosanjh, who is still basking in the glory of Udta Punjab.
He is once again placed in a Punjabi background, his fine forte. “This film’s story was very different. I am a singer in real life, but not the kind of singer that I play in the movie. It was wonderful to be in this film. Punjab is looking very beautiful in Phillauri,” said Diljit who’s pairing with Anushka is being hailed as the couple of 2017.
The film director is newcomer Anshai Lal, and the movie is set to release on March 24.
