It is extremely rare that a sequel is better than the first movie. Gangs of Wasseypur directed by Anurag Kashyap was one of those films that achieved this feat thanks to the sparkling performance by Nawazuddin Siddiqui who played the male protagonist ‘Faizal Khan’.
The film ended with Faizal Khan taking revenge for the death of his bhai, baap and daada. However, he was betrayed and murdered in cold blood by his own step-brother - 'Definate'. The audience were left wondering whether they will see another sequel of this revenge drama, especially since Faizal Khan’s child is shown to be living in Mumbai.
Now the writer of the film Zeishan Quadri has told that he has another story in mind that would tie the threads between previous two parts of Gangs of Wasseypur.
Speaking to TOI, Quadri said, “It’s not a sequel or a prequel. If I have to give it a term, I’d call it a mid-equal (laughs). It will have the same timeline and setting as the first two films. Which is why we aren’t calling it part 3 but part 1.5. It will tell a parallel story between the two films.”
As is the fad these days, the movie could find itself in a controversy even before the script is finalized. In a report by Hindustan Times, it is stated that the residents are against the defamation of their hometown in the movies, and that the peaceful side of the town is ignored completely.
Objections have been raised to refrain from using the town's name in the movie's title, by the ward councillor Nissar Alam. He also stated that there has been a surge in the level of criminal activities ever since the first movie's release. However, Quadri has rejected all these claims by stating that “A film should be taken as a film… Besides, the films have also exposed criminals and their modus operandi thus helping the authorities.”
