British tennis player Andy Murray took a hilarious dig at Donald Trump after the US president claimed that he has turned down being named as Time’s ‘Person of the Year’.

Trump took to Twitter to lash out at the Time magazine, seemingly aware that he was not set to be named as the person of the year. Instead, Trump contrived a story saying that the magazine contacted him and asked for a lengthy interview and a photoshoot - meaning he, therefore, refused to be named as the person of the year.

It was little over an hour before Murray responded to Trump. Using his fantastic wit, the three-time Grand Slam winner in his tweet claimed that he had similar stipulations from the BBC in exchange for being named ‘Sports Personality of the Year’.

Although Murray himself is a three-time Sports Personality of the Year winner, it is probably appropriate to say that he has a little chance of winning the prestige this year.

Comedian David Schneider also joined in and tweeted that he declined the offer of becoming the next James Bond in exchange for an interview and major photo shoot by Hollywood

Moreover, the Time magazine which awarded Trump with the title last year is disputing his account of how he rejected the magazine’s request for an interview and photoshoot.

Responding on its own Twitter handle, the magazine rejected president Trump’s claim that it offered him this year’s ‘Person of the Year’ award.

The magazine will announce its ‘Person of the Year’ winner on December 6th.
