After 16 long years, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan finally attended an award function - the Master Dinanath Mangeshkar Awards Ceremony which was held in Mumbai on Monday, where he received a special award given to the city’s prominent personalities in various fields.
RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat was the chief guest of the ceremony who felicitated Aamir for the success of his film Dangal, one of the biggest hits of 2016.
“This is a huge honour for me, director Nitesh Tiwari and the entire team of Dangal. I am very thankful to Lata Mangeshkar and Deenanath Mangeshkar Trust and entire Mangeshkar family,” Aamir said in his speech, reports The Hindustan times.
Reportedly, Aamir Khan attended the Dinanath Mangeshkar Awards Ceremony after the Nightingale of Bollywood, singer Lata Mangeshkar invited him.
Last time the Dangal star attended an award function was sixteen years ago in 2001 at the Academy Awards when Lagaan was nominated in the category for best film.
“Today wherever I am, the credit goes to all the writers who have written my films. I am here because of the directors and writers for the wonderful work they’ve done. I thank all of them,” Aamir Khan said after receiving the award.
Director of Dangal, Nitesh Tiwari, who was also present at the award function, thanked the audience for making the film such a huge hit.
