68th Emmy Award Nominations Announced: Game Of Thrones, House Of Cards Rule The Roost

HBO and its highest grosser drama Game of Thrones led the way as the most nominated network and series with the adaptation of George R.R. Martin's fantasy.

HBO and its highest grosser drama Game of Thrones led the way as the most nominated network and series, respectively just like the previous two years- with the adaptation of George R.R. Martin's fantasy series topping the list with 23 nominations.

With the show being nominated for the Best Drama Series it now has to retain its title this year. Actor Peter Dinklage who won the Supporting Actor at the 67th Emmy Awards was nominated again and along with him the most beloved Jon Snow (Kit Harington) made the cut as well, for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Amongst the GoT ladies Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke were nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting role.

 The fans were excited to see Maisie Williams make the list this year, with her exceptional badass portrayal of Arya Stark. But the season six favourite Sansa aka Sophie Turner failed to make it and the fans took to Twitter to protest the same.

On the series side, Ryan Murphy's The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story came in second with 22 nominations. This show proved to be more than just a pop culture obsession, and scored Emmy nominations for stars Cuba Gooding Jr. and Courtney B. Vance in the Outstanding Actor in a Miniseries category, Sarah Paulson for Lead Actress and for Best Limited Series, John Travolta and David Schwimmer for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or a Television Movie.

The other choices for Outstanding Drama Series looked familiar to last year with Better Call Saul, Downton Abbey, Homeland, House of Cards and Mr. Robot with just a new inclusion of The Americans.

Netflix’s House of Cards also led the pack of nominations in many ways with Kevin Spacey for Best Actor, Robin Wright for Best Actress and Michael Kelly for Supporting Actor just as before. Ace actress Viola Davis was nominated for Best Actress for How to Get Away with Murder and Mr. Robot star Rami Malek was nominated for Best Actor too.

Big names like Bryan Cranston, Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch made the cut for Best Actor in a Limited Series or a Television Movie for All The Way, The Night Manager and Sherlock: The Abominable Bride respectively.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! (ABC), Last Week Tonight With John Oliver (HBO), The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (NBC) which are popular in India too were nominated for Best Variety Talk Series.


Black-ish star Anthony Anderson and Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham announced the 12 main categories. Anderson got really excited as his name was called out for a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. "Hi mama," Anderson yelled, "I know you are watching!"

The 68th annual Emmy Awards will air on September 18 on ABC with Jimmy Kimmel as the host.
