1. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was born in Mhow, Indore. He was the 14th child of his parents.

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s father was serving the Army and was stationed at Mhow where he was born in a military cantonment near Indore. There is also a memorial in his honour at the military town which is called as “Bhim Janma Bhoomi”.
2. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s last name was changed by his teacher

Dr. Babasaheb’s teacher was Mahadev Ambedkar. He was so fond of Dr. Babasaheb that he simply changed his last name to Ambedkar. His real surname was Ambavadekar.
3. Dr. Ambedkar was not allowed to sit in classroom

Dr. Ambedkar belonged to untouchable caste. He was not allowed to sit in the classroom with higher castes students. Dr. Ambedkar came across many restrictions on numerous things that made his life difficult.
4. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar went to America for higher education

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was awarded a meritorious scholarship and then he went to America for higher education. He was also the principal at the Government Law University of Mumbai for around two years.
5. He converted to Buddhism
He did not agree with all the principles of Hinduism. He converted to Buddhism along with about 6,00,000 followers at Nagpur on 14 October 1956 just before two months of his death.
6. He was first one to pursue doctorate in Economics and was India’s First Law Minister
Dr. Ambedkar was first one to pursue doctorate in Economics from Columbia University and London School of Economics. In his early years, he was an economist, a professor and a lawyer.
