Sar Pass Trek

The Sar Pass is located in Parvati Valley of Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. Groups trek up to the Sar pass during the months of May and June. Sar, in local dialect, means a lake. While trekking across the path from Tila Lotni to Biskeri Ridge, one has to pass by a small, (normally) frozen lake (Sar) and hence the name Sar Pass Trek. It is one of the most popular trekking trails in the Shivalik Range of Himachal Pradesh.

The Sar pass trek shows you the real beauty of the Himalayas. It offers an enthralling experience with evergreen forests, snow-covered mountains, picturesque villages and beautiful meadows.

To conquer the Sar pass you will have to drive through the enchanting vistas of Kasol and start walking towards the Grahan Village through the beautifully verdant forest! Then the trail through the forest will take you to the Nagaru Campsite. The enthralling views of Parvati Valley will leave you speechless. And then the Biskeri Thatch will take you to the magical Sar Pass. From there begins the final descent.

How to Reach Kasol Base Camp: The camp is linked by road to Kullu via Bhuntar. It is 5 km short of Manikaran*. Regular bus service is available from Kullu and Bhuntar to reach Kasol. Direct buses are also available to Manikaran from Chandigarh and other parts of Punjab. Nearest railway stations are Joginder Nagar, Pathankot and Chandigarh. Nearest airport is Bhuntar.

*Manikaran is famous for its hot springs and lies on the banks of the Parvati River. It is also famous for the Manikaran Gurudwara Sahib.

Challenge level: Moderate
Best time to visit: May-June
Maximum Altitude: 13800 ft
Special Tips: Physical fitness is all that needed to conquer the Sar pass. Rest all depends on the will of the trekker.
