Just when people started to look onto the brighter side of the demonetization plan, there were still speculations and reservations amongst certain citizens regarding the discomfort to stand in long queues to exchange money. On Monday, PM Narendra Modi’s 95 year old mother went to exchange banned currency notes at a bank in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Heeraben Modi arrived in a wheelchair to get her money exchanged and was assisted by her relatives in this process.

Heeraben swapped her 4500 Rs. in the denomination of 500 Rs.with a brand new 2000 Rs. note. A fleet of reporters surrounded her during this process.

This effort from 95 year old woman, notwithstanding her stature as the mother of PM, was indeed commendable and it certainly gave a strong message to every citizen of the country, no matter their age, to step up in desperate times and fight against corruption. The pain of this process would be temporary but the effects would be permanent.
