Every one of us uses smartphones. Our generation has even been nicknamed as the smartphone generation! But recently Apple has been granted a patent for technology that could stop smartphone cameras being used at live concerts. So what really is the reason behind this?

Well the reason is perhaps copyright protection and anti-piracy measures. A lot of people record the concerts and upload the videos online, thus impacting business. The patent tells us that smartphone camera receives coded infrared signals which are beamed from emitters in public places and so it disables the camera’s function to take pictures or record something. The patent was first filed in the year early at 2011.

One solution to this problem is that a smartphone camera should be with infrared light filter or the whole handset should be modified. Other solution is that consumers should switch to technology that does not use such signals.

Founder of gadget site Pocket Lint Stuart Miles says that,

"This could harm Apple in the eyes of some people. People always like freedom of speech and who is Apple to tell me I can’t record something? Nobody likes to be surprised when you want to record a video but can’t."
