The world is celebrating International Yoga Day 2016, popularly called Yoga Day, today. Many Indian actors and actresses have made yoga a part and parcel of their fitness regime. Yoga is a physical as well as mental exercise that apparently has a host of benefits. Several Bollywood celebrities, who do Yoga on a regular basis, revealed the positive effects that this age-old practice brings in a particular person's mind and body. Considering the apparent benefits of yoga, several Bollywood celebrities have regularly been practising the exercise.
Some of the celebrities have said that they start their morning with a dose of yoga and some of them have even released DVDs of doing yoga. Check out these Bollywood actresses who do yoga regularly and endorse the practice.
1. Bipasha Basu
Basu is a huge Yoga enthusiast and will perform yoga for about 20 minutes at a programme to be organised by various government departments in association with Shwasa, an organisation dedicated to popularising yoga, on Tuesday to mark this year’s International Yoga Day. She has also shown keen interest in it throughout and recently posted photos on her Instagram as well with husband Karan Singh Grover.
2. Shilpa Shetty
Shilpa, who has one of the best bodies in Bollywood swears by the benefits of power yoga. She even brought out a CD called 'Shilpa's Yoga', which was released in June 2008. “Yoga keeps my mind, body and soul fit. I had a neck problem and suffered from chronic spondylitis. So I started practicing yoga. I took professional training and it really benefited,” says the actress. It may be noted that Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty had performed yoga at the last year’s International yoga Day event.
3. Sonam Kapoor
Sonam Kapoor is a super health freak and practices Bikram Yoga regularly. "Starting bikram yoga today or as everyone calls it hot yoga. It's my dad's secret for looking fab," she tweeted a couple of months ago.
4. Deepika Padukone
Currently one of the top Bollywood actresses, Deepika has a fixed yoga schedule every morning. She credits yoga for her healthy mind and fit body.
5. Kangana Ranawat
Kangana Ranaut is another power yoga aficionado . The sexy lass who impressed everyone with her Shootout at Wadala avatar says, "I do yoga regularly and eat a balanced diet."
6. Kareena Kapoor Khan
“I am completely into yoga. I think yoga has changed my life. My morning yoga practice that I do for an hour-and-a-half every day is something that keeps me going. The day I don't do it, I feel that my day doesn't go well,” says the actress.
7. Rani Mukherjee
Actress Rani Mukherji shed extra kilos and toned up her body for a film by practicing yoga two hours every day. "I did a combination of yoga and weight training that kind of really worked for my body" says the actress.
8. Lara Dutta
Bollywood beauty and hot mommy, Lara Dutta, launched a yoga DVD to help women get back in shape post pregnancy. Lara says that exercising and a strict workout routine has helped her maintain her shape despite giving birth to her daughter, Saira by C section.
9. Konkana Sen Sharma
Bollywood actress Konkana Sen credits yoga for keeping her in shape. The actress, who was seen in Ek Thi Daayan, looked absolutely great in her new form. "I do yoga; have been doing it for a long time now. Guess that helps," she said in an event.
10. Hema Malini, Rekha
These yesteryear's beauties stick to the traditional yoga form unlike the young actresses who prefer power Yoga and maintain that the practice has helped them maintain their charisma and keeps health problems at bay.“Apart from dancing, one thing that I swear by is yoga. That’s the secret of my fitness,” Hema Malini had said.
Getting inspired by the well-toned frames and sculpted bodies of our cine-stars, health-conscious Indians too are embracing Power Yoga in a big way.
